Professional Bio
Karen's journey to support for veterans began with her role as the Assistant Superintendent at the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kankakee County, Illinois. Since 2009, she has had the privilege of working for veterans, dedicating herself to improving their lives and those of their survivors. Through her diligent evaluation of their needs, Karen aids veterans in obtaining the County, State, and Federal VA benefits they are entitled to. Her commitment ensures that every veteran, surviving spouse, and family member is cared for and never feels alone. Her dedication to the cause is evident in her continuous efforts to find new ways to help veterans and their families. In 2017, Karen was honored to try out as a trainer for the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO). Her expertise and passion led to her current role as Director of Education for the National Association, where she teaches people from across the country the job she loves.
Karen's involvement with the NACVSO education team has also led to her appointment as co-chair of the education team for the IL Association of County Veterans Assistance Commission. Her leadership and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the educational programs for the organization. Additionally, Karen has previously served as Treasurer for the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers. Karen achieved the elite designation of Certified Veterans Advocate in 2021. She also serves the 21st Jurisdiction as the Veterans Treatment Court Coordinator.
