Legislative Message - March

Industry,

Message From the Legislative Director

Dear NACVSO Members and Partners,

I am pleased to share with you that our recent testimony before the Senate and House Joint Committee on Veterans Affairs was a success. As your Legislative Director, I had the honor of representing NACVSO and promoting our priorities to congressional leaders last Wednesday, March 13th.

During the testimony, we highlighted the critical role of Governmental Veterans Service Officers (GVSOs) in providing comprehensive support beyond disability claims. We emphasized the need for federal support and coordination with local GVSOs to ensure seamless access to benefits and healthcare for veterans across the country. Our message resonated well with the committee as well as attendees who recognized the invaluable contributions of GVSOs in their respective communities.

One of the hallmarks of this testimony, now our second before the Joint Committee on Veterans Affairs, is the continued importance of fostering stronger partnerships between federal agencies and GVSOs. We advocated for increased funding and resources to meet the growing demand for services, especially in areas with critical shortages and high rates of veteran suicide, for example. I am optimistic about the potential for positive changes in policy and support for GVSOs in the days ahead.

Moving forward, we will continue to engage with congressional leaders and stakeholders to advance our priorities and ensure that GVSOs have the necessary tools and resources to serve our veterans effectively. Your ongoing support and dedication to our mission are invaluable, and together, we will continue making a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Thank you for your commitment to NACVSO and our shared vision of supporting veterans and their families.

Best regards,

Michael McLaughlin

Legislative Director, NACVSO
